NEWS WEEK
It’s NEWS time C2!
At long last News Week is upon us. In many Year 1 and 2 classrooms NEWS is frequent activity on the timetable but in Year 3 we are just too busy to have it as a weekly activity. Instead, we will endeavor to have special NEWS a few times a term.
Generally in Year 1 and some Year 2 classes ‘NEWS’ consists of speaking to the class about an object or a recent experience. Children are allowed to bring in special things from home and use them as a talking point or simply recount events that have recently taken place in their lives.
In C2, we will be doing it a little differently.
For ‘NEWS Week’ children will need to come prepared to speak to the class and answer some questions about a particular topic. At times the news topic will be organised and discussed in class time and may be quite specific. On other occasions we will not have a specified topic and it will be up to your child to choose a topic and prepare.
As this is the first ‘NEWS WEEK’ of the year we will keep it quite open.
WHEN? - News Week – Term 1 – Week 10 (be ready for Tues the 4th of April)
WHAT? - Topic: FREE CHOICE
As it is our first News Week in C2 for 2017 I thought it would be a good idea to keep the topic as broad as possible.
Your FREE CHOICE News can be about basically anything! You could talk to us about a hobby of yours, something special that you collect, you could talk to us about a big family trip that you have been on or even a random subject that you are interested in… the possibilities are endless!
Please come prepared, Mrs O'Donovan does not expect anyone to get up & make up their News on the spot... Trust me this does happen (a little too often in some cases...)
You may like to prepare some notes or palm cards to help you deliver your News.
If you are bringing something in to show us please keep it safely in your bag until NEWS time. If it is a valuable object you may like to ask Mrs O'Donovan if you can lock it in her cupboard.
PARENTS: Please supervise what your child brings in to school especially if it is valuable.
When you have decided on your NEWS TOPIC let Mrs O'Donovan know so she can check on how you are going with your preparation.
