In C2 we celebrate birthdays in a special way. Children are invited to select, wrap and present a special Birthday Book to the class on their birthday. It is a fun and memorable way to celebrate their birthday in a school environment. The sharing of Birthday Books will help to encourage a love of reading and literature and sharing the book can be a lovely experience for your child and their whole class.
Below is the note (sent home Term 1) outlining the Birthday Book info:
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
In our classroom, we celebrate birthdays in a special way. In C2 students have the opportunity to select, wrap and ‘treat’ the class with a BIRTHDAY BOOK rather than a sugary treat on their birthday! A new or used book may be wrapped as a gift and the book will be opened in front of (with) the class. It will be read to the class as a part of your child’s celebration. Your child’s name will be written on the inside of the front cover of the book as a dedication. The BIRTHDAY BOOK will be displayed and become part of your child’s classroom library.
This idea fosters a love of reading and encourages the sharing of stories and books. Sugary treats such as cakes and chocolates are no longer allowed to be distributed at school in accordance with our ‘Healthy Food’ policy. We also have a number of children with various food allergies.
If your child has a summer birthday – (or it has already passed) please choose another day during the school year so that we can celebrate at school. To ensure we don’t have too many double ups please pop in and see me to double check a good time of the year or check our C2 Birthday chart that is located behind the classroom door.
Participation is certainly optional. Please discuss your decision with your child so that they know ‘what is going on’ when their birthday comes around. Good quality picture books make ideal BIRTHDAY BOOKS as they are easily enjoyed and shared in small groups and as a whole class and they cater for a range of reading levels.
