Homework Preparation Sheets
Below is the note that you received in Week 3 regarding
the NAPLAN homework preparation sheets.
NOTE: Please be aware that your child is very new to Year 3 and there will be concepts within the preparation sheets that your child may not have been exposed to yet. Encourage them to read carefully and have a go.
ALSO NOTE: This preparation is aimed at helping your child get used to the NAPLAN questions and what is expected in the tests. Please do not let the prep sheets become a horrible experience at home - NAPLAN can be a very stressful, high pressure time so we need to work together to ensure that children feel comfortable with the text experience. If the prep is getting you/your student down please see me.
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
In Term 1 the Year 3 classroom teachers will be sending home some NAPLAN preparation sheets each week. This preparation is specifically for their Numeracy NAPLAN test and their Language Conventions test. NAPLAN homework prep completion will be recorded each week.
LANGUAGE CONVENTIONS PREP:
These sheets contain questions including spelling, punctuation and grammar. Encourage your child to write neatly when completing the spelling because if it is too difficult to read it will usually be marked incorrect. Students have to try (best they can to fit the whole word in the box provided.
NUMERACY PREP:
These sheets consist of miscellaneous questions. Some questions are visual/diagrammatic, others are more number based. ALL of the questions need to be read carefully. We have been focusing on PROPERLY READING all of the information that the question displays in class as many children rush and don’t read properly and consequently get answers wrong.
We will be going through the preparation sheets on Fridays. Please encourage your child to read and have a go at ALL of the questions. If your child is unsure of any questions – encourage them to choose the best answer, this is a good test strategy as in multiple choice tests there is always a chance that they will choose the correct answer. When your child gets stuck please encourage them to pick an answer and continue. In the real NAPLAN test there are about 30 – 35 questions and the children have 45 minutes to complete the test.
This homework can be completed individually or with you/a sibling as long as they are ready to go over the answers on the Friday.
